Port Charlotte Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-75 Travelers
Traffic Slowdowns at Exit 167 (Toledo Blade Blvd): This is a major commercial exit with heavy local traffic. Expect slowdowns during rush hours (7-9am, 4-6pm), especially since it's a popular shopping area for locals.
Speed Trap Zone: The stretch I-75 through Charlotte County is notorious for strict enforcement. Stick to the speed limit, especially near mile markers 165-170. FHP and local sheriff are very active here.
Limited Service Options: This stretch of I-75 has fewer gas/food options than you might expect. Tank up at Exit 170 (Kings Highway) heading south or wait until Exit 161 (Jacaranda Blvd in Venice) if heading north. Don't assume every exit has services.
Alligator Alley is Next: If heading south, you're approaching the long, remote stretch to Naples/Miami (Alligator Alley starts at Exit 141). Make sure you have gas, snacks, and a bathroom break before continuing south.
