Ocala Area Insider TipsThe Inside Scoop From Seasoned I-75 Travelers
Avoid Rush Hour at SR-200 (Exit 352): Between 4-6 PM on weekdays, this exit backs up terribly with local commuter traffic. If you're stopping for food, use Exit 350 (SR-40) instead during these hours.
Speed Trap Alert: The "Reduction Zone" I-75 drops from 70 to 60 mph through Marion County, and local law enforcement is *very* active here. Watch especially near mile markers 341-350. This stretch is notorious among truckers and frequent travelers.
Rest Stop Timing: The southbound rest area (around MM 368) is one of Florida's nicest and rarely crowded. The northbound one gets packed. If southbound, it's worth the stop. If northbound and it's busy, push through to the Gainesville area.
Wildlife Crossing Warning: Ocala National Forest flanks the highway. Dawn and dusk see increased deer, wild hog, and even bear activity. Stay alert, especially in foggy morning conditions which are common here.
