Brent Spence Bridge Inspection Begins September 13 with I-75 Lane Closures

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) reports that a bridge inspection on the Brent Spence Bridge is tentatively scheduled to begin on Sunday, September 13. This work will require various evening/overnight lane closures on I-71/75 northbound from north of W. Fifth Street (KY 8) in Covington to the Kentucky/Ohio state line. Access to Covington’s Fifth Street, along with I-71 and I-75 in Ohio will be maintained. All lanes will reopen daily by 5 a.m.

Tentative Schedule (Weather Permitting)

  • Sunday, September 13:ย right double lane closure from 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Monday, September 14: right double lane closure from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, Sept. 16: left double lane closure from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Thursday, September 17: left double lane closure from 10:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

The inspection will continue Monday, September 21 through Friday, September 25 as crews shift to the Brent Spence Bridge truss and Kentucky approach spans. The inspection team will be utilizing rope access and man lifts to access these areas daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This portion of the inspection does not require any travel impacts.

Weather permitting, this routine bridge inspection is expected to be completed Friday, September 25 at 5:00 p.m. KYTC will advise if additional days of work are needed, or if the schedule of work changes.
