The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) alerts travelers that restrictions will be in effect this weekend on I-75 North and South at the Ohio approach of the Brent Spence Bridge for deck repairs as part of a multi-county bridge maintenance project.

Contractors for the ODOT will be repairing the concrete on the upper deck (southbound lanes) of the approach to the bridge at locations identified during sounding tests conducted at the beginning of the month.

Prior to the repairs getting started, crews will install formwork under the upper deck of the approach, and on Thursday, November 13, a double-lane closure will go into effect at 9:00 p.m. on the lower deck (northbound lanes) near the Ohio approach and Mehring Way, followed by a triple-lane closure at 11:00 p.m.

The lane closures will be lifted by 6:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, until approximately 9:00 p.m. Friday, when crews will return to make the needed repairs and impart the following restrictions:

Friday-Saturday, November 14-15:

  • A double-lane closure on the lower deck (northbound lanes) of the Brent Spence Bridge, beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday and continuing until Saturday evening or until the work zone is no longer needed for the repair work on the upper deck.

Friday-Monday, November 14-17:

  • A triple-lane closure on the upper deck (southbound lanes) of the bridge, beginning at approximately 9:00 p.m.
    • I-75 South will be reduced to one lane from just north of the approach of the Brent Spence Bridge, near the 3rd Street overpass, to south of the merge with I-71.
    • Access from I-71 South to the Brent Spence Bridge will be closed, and motorists traveling southbound I-71 may detour by way of S.R. 562/Norwood Lateral and I-75 or by way of I-471 and I-275.
  • The southbound restrictions are scheduled to be lifted by 6:00 a.m. Monday; however, the contractor will reopen all lanes once the concrete has cured.

All work associated with the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

Along with the bridge repairs, crews will also be repairing the median barrier wall at various locations along I-75, between the 8th Street Viaduct and the Western Hills Viaduct.

Beginning at 11:00 p.m. Friday and continuing throughout the weekend, a single-lane closure will be in place in both directions for crews to form and pour new concrete to sections of the barrier wall that has been damaged as a result of traffic crashes.

These restrictions are scheduled to be lifted by 5:00 a.m. Monday.
