The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced a scheduled closure of northbound I-75 between Schaefer Road and Springwells Street to facilitate critical bridge maintenance. The project includes application of a protective surface treatment to four bridges and an epoxy overlay on the I-75 Rouge River Bridge.
Full Freeway Closure
Friday, August 14, 2026, 9:00 p.m. through Monday, August 17, 2026, 5:00 a.m.
Northbound I-75 from Schaefer Road to Springwells Street will be completely closed.
Recommended Detours
- Freeway Detour: Northbound I-75 to northbound I-275, eastbound I-94, eastbound I-96, rejoining northbound I-75.
- Local Alternate Route: M-85 (Fort Street).
Early Ramp Closures
To manage traffic volumes ahead of the full closure, the following northbound I-75 on- and off-ramps will begin closing at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026 (remaining closed until 5:00 a.m. Monday, August 17, 2026):
- Northbound/Southbound M-39 (Southfield Freeway)
- Outer Drive
- Northbound/Southbound Schaefer Road
- Northbound I-75 to Dearborn Street
- Northbound I-75 to Springwells Street
All construction activities remain weather-dependent. Please reduce speed and exercise heightened caution when traveling through active work zones.
