The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that, with preparations under way for the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project, long-term and permanent ramp closures will be in place beginning later this month and early next, with the first closure set to start tentatively on Sunday, June 28.ย Here are the details…

Eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct Ramp to Second Street

  • The exit ramp from eastbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Second Street will be closed Sunday, June 28, beginning at approximately 10:00 p.m.
  • Motorists may detour by way of Freeman Avenue, Mehring Way and Elm Street.
  • This ramp will be a permanent closure.

I-75 Southbound Ramp to Second Street

  • The exit ramp from I-75 South to Second Street (Exit 1A) will be closed Monday, June 29, beginning at 11:00 p.m.
  • Motorists will be detoured by way of Fifth Street (Exit 1C) and Race Street.
  • This ramp will be closed permanently and replaced with a new ramp to Third Street that will provide access to SecondStreet.
  • A temporary ramp to Third Street will be in place in the fall of 2026.

Westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct ramp to Gest Street

  • The ramp from westbound U.S. 50/Sixth Street Viaduct to Gest Street will be closed Tuesday, July 7, beginning at 11:00 p.m.ย
  • Motorists will be detoured by way of Linn Street and the W. 6th Street service road.
  • This ramp is a permanent closure and will be replaced with a new ramp in a future phase.

I-71 Northbound ramp to Second Street

  • The exit ramp from northbound I-71 to Second Street (Exit 1A) will be closed Wednesday, July 8, beginning at approximately 11:00 p.m.
  • Motorists will be detoured by way of I-75 North to Fifth Street (Exit 1C) and Race Street.
  • This exit ramp is slated to reopen in the fall of 2028.

Second Street

  • Second Street will be reduced to one lane between the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge and Elm Street beginning at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9.
  • Traffic will be maintained in one lane through the spring of 2027.

Along with building a new companion bridge,ย the Brent Spence Bridge Corridor project in Ohio will reconstruct a portion of I-75 and the interchange ramps, which includes redesigning downtown ramp configurations to separate the interstate system from a local, collector-distributor system. This restorative effort will require the permanent closure of the ramp from I-75 South and U.S. 50 East to Second Street, as well as the long-term closure of the ramp from I-71 North to Second Street.

With new traffic patterns in place, motorists are reminded to remain alert and to exercise additional caution when traveling through these areas. They are also advised that the schedule for these restrictions and closures is subject to change due to factors such as weather conditions, equipment delivery and crew coordination.
