The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) announces overnight rolling roadblocks on I-75/71 and I-275 in Kenton County on Monday, October 19. Crews will be conducting skid testing beginning at 9:00 p.m. This operation will require multiple rolling roadblocks. Traffic may be slowed down, and at times stopped, to provide a safe area for crews to perform the testing.

This type of project evaluates skid resistance. Skid resistance is when a tire is no longer able to rotate on the pavement surface, and as a result loses traction and slides along the top of the surface. This testing ensures motorists can safely travel in all types of weather.

Tentative Schedule (Weather Permitting)

  • I-71/75 northbound: Dixie Highway (U.S. 25) (188 mile point) to the Brent Spence Bridge (191.4 mile point).
  • I-71/75 southbound: Brent Spence Bridge to Dixie Highway (U.S. 25).
  • I-275 eastbound from Turkeyfoot Road (KY 1303) (82 mile point) to the AA Highway (KY 9) (77.24 mile point).
  • I-275 westbound from AA Highway to Turkeyfoot Road.

Once testing is completed in one location, crews will shift to the following location on the tentative schedule.

Motorists should expect various ramp closures during the rolling roadblock operation. Never attempt to pass a rolling roadblock, as this traffic control is in place to ensure safety for our crews.

Motorists should expect some delays when rolling roadblocks are in place, and are encouraged to seek an alternate route.

Weather permitting, this skid testing operation is expected to be completed Tuesday, October 20 at 12:30 a.m.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur.
