Traffic pattern changes are coming to I-75 as contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) start the next phase of construction for the Mill Creek Expressway widening project.

During the first phase of construction, crews will be working outside the southbound lanes along the west side of I-75, and traffic on both I-75 North and South will be shifted to the east and a contraflow opened between state Route 126/Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway and Towne Street and a contraflow lane on southbound I-75.

In order to complete the traffic shift, lane restrictions will be in effect throughout the week, and going into the overnight, a double-lane closure is in place on I-75 South. The ramp from Paddock Road to I-75 South is also closed, and these restrictions will be lifted by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Work is followed by single-lane closures on Wednesday and Thursday, with single-lane closures on I-75 North in effect from 8:00 p.m. each night to 6:00 a.m. the following day while crews place concrete barrier wall.

Then, on Friday, July 25, and continuing through Monday, July 28, a double-lane closure will be in effect through the construction zone on both I-75 North and South while crews pave the interstate on either side of the Mill Creek bridge at the S.R. 126 interchange.

A single-lane closure on I-75 North and South will start at 8 p.m. Friday, and this will be followed by a double-lane closure at 11 p.m. The double-lane closure on I-75 N/S will remain in place until 6 a.m. Monday.

Along with the restrictions on I-75, the ramps from east and westbound S.R. 126 to I-75 South, as well as the ramp from Galbraith Road to I-75 South, will be closed from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday.

Additional work will take place next week to complete the traffic shift on southbound I-75, and by Saturday, August 2, the new lane configurations and extended contraflow lane will be open to traffic, connecting or tying into the existing traffic patterns that are currently in effect on I-75 between as part of the Mill Creek Expressway – railroad bridge replacement project.

The I-75 Mill Creek Expressway – Phase 8C extends from Regina Graeter Way (midway between the Towne Street and Paddock Road interchanges) to the Galbraith Road/S.R. 126 interchange area, and the project includes widening for additional through lanes, rehabilitating existing pavement and bridges, completing minor improvements to the Paddock Road interchange, and tying into the existing S.R. 126 interchange southern ramps.

All work for this project is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2027.
