The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) report that crews have initiated this weekend’s closure of I-75 North and South for the Linn Street Bridge Replacement and Reconstruction project, and while they will be working hard to set beams for the new overpass, motorists are reminded to expect delays, and be patient.
The following is a breakdown of the impacts drivers face, along with detour and routing information to help guide them in and out of downtown Cincinnati as they navigate the closures.
I-75 North Weekend Impact
- Closure of the entrance ramps from Fort Washington Way, 4th, and 6th streets to I-75 North have been initiated.
- Single-lane closure across the Brent Spence Bridge and continuing north, followed by double and triple-lane closures prior to the full closure.
- Full closure of I-75 North at the U.S. 50 West exit (Exit 1D) exit ramp.
- The closure will remain in place until 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 28.
- All thru and heavy truck traffic are encouraged to follow the signed detour by way of I-71 and S.R. 562/Norwood Lateral.
- Access to downtown Cincinnati and the West Side will be available by way Fifth Street (Exit 1C) and U.S. 50 West/W. Sixth Street (Exit 1D).
- Motorists to I-75 North from downtown can follow the detours from W. Eighth Street, W. Sixth Street or Third and Linn streets to Freeman Avenue to re-enter the interstate.
I-75 South Weekend Impact
- Closure of the entrance ramp from the Western Hills Viaduct to I-75 South.
- Single-lane closure, followed by double and triple-lane closures prior to the full closure.
- Full closure of I-75 South at the Freeman Avenue (Exit 1F) exit ramp.
- The closure will remain in place until 5:00 a.m. Monday, September 28.
- All thru and heavy truck traffic are encouraged to follow the signed detour by way of S.R. 562/Norwood Lateral and I-71.
- Access to downtown Cincinnati from Freeman Avenue is by way of Eighth Street, Sixth Street, Linn and Third streets, or Mehring Way.
- Motorists in downtown Cincinnati may re-enter southbound I-75 from Third Street.
Additional impacts and traffic changes this weekend
Saturday, September 26:
- Closure of the on ramp from W. Eighth Street to I-75 South on Saturday, September 26, at 5:00 a.m. for barrier wall installation.
- The ramp is expected to reopen by 5:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28.
- Motorists may detour by way of Freeman Avenue southbound to eastbound Mehring Way to northbound Elm Street to westbound Third Street to I-75 southbound.
Sunday, September 27:
- Closure of the ramp from eastbound U.S. 50 to I-75 South at or after 8:30 p.m.
- The closure will be in effect until January 2027.
- Motorists can continue onto Fifth Street from the viaduct to southbound Race Street to westbound Third Street to enter I-75 South.
Sunday, September 27:
- Opening of a new, temporary off ramp from I-75 southbound to Third Street, just east of the entrance to the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge.
Project At A Glance
The Linn Street Reconstruction Project, which is part of the broader Brent Spence Bridge Corridor and the improvements to the Ohio Phases 1 and 2 segments, includes replacing and reconstructing the bridge between W. 8th and W. Court streets and reconfiguring it to two, 10-foot driving lanes, with bike lanes and sidewalks on each side. The project will also include some minor reconfiguring of W. Court Street and Winchell Avenue, as well as replacement of the pedestrian bridge over Winchell.
While Linn Street is anticipated to be reopened to traffic in the fall of 2027, all work is scheduled to be completed in late spring of 2029.
