The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has implemented a strategic suspension of construction activities and the removal of lane restrictions on 106 of its 179 active road and bridge projects statewideโrepresenting nearly 60 percent of ongoing initiativesโto minimize travel disruptions during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Construction Holiday Suspension Period
Commencement: 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2
Conclusion: 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 6
Operational Impact: Active work will cease, with temporary markers such as orange barrels retracted wherever feasible to restore normal traffic flow.
Guidance for Motorists
Although construction operations are suspended, MDOT emphasizes that select traffic configurations and safety measures will remain in place. Motorists are advised to exercise continued caution in the presence of temporary lane shifts, concrete traffic barriers, shoulder closures, and unattended equipment.
