The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) reports that motorists traveling through Detroit should expect significant traffic impacts as northbound and southbound I-75 will be closed at separate locations for roadway and bridge construction throughout the weekend. Southbound ramp closures will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, ahead of the main freeway closures.
Northbound I-75 Closure
9:00 p.m. Friday, July 17 – 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026
Northbound I-75 will be closed between I-96 and M-10, including all entrance and exit ramps. The following ramps will also be closed:
- Eastbound I-96 to northbound I-75
- Rosa Parks Boulevard to northbound I-75
- Northbound I-75 collector-distributor ramp to northbound I-75
- Northbound I-75 to M-5 (Grand River Avenue)
Detours:
- Freeway: Northbound I-75 → Westbound I-96 → Eastbound I-94 → Northbound I-75
- Local: Northbound I-75 collector-distributor ramp → M-10
Southbound I-75 Closure
9:00 p.m. Friday, July 17 – 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026
Southbound I-75 will be closed between Springwells Street and Schaefer Road, including all entrance and exit ramps.
Detours:
- Freeway: Southbound I-75 → Westbound I-96 → Westbound I-94 → Southbound I-275 → Southbound I-75
- Local: M-85 (Fort Street) serves as the recommended alternate route.
Southbound I-75 Ramp Closures
6:00 p.m. Friday, July 17 – 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 20, 2026
The following ramps to southbound I-75 will be closed:
- Ambassador Bridge ramp
- Vernor Highway/I-75 Service Drive ramp
- Clark Avenue ramp
- Springwells Street ramp
- Dearborn Street ramp
All construction activities are weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use caution when traveling through work zones.
