Ohio Governor Mike DeWine joined Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and local officials to celebrate the opening of new rest areas along I-75 in Butler and Auglaize counties.
The new rest areas enhance the safety, experience, and accessibility for travelers in Ohio, while sharing Ohioโs natural history, historic past, and popular attractions at re-imagined rest areas. New facilities include native Ohio plants, dog trails, rocking chairs, and Storybook Trails, which give kids and families the chance to read a Dolly Parton Imagination Library book along a short trail while stretching their legs.
Governor DeWine and local community leaders recently cut the ribbon on the Butler County I-75 southbound rest area in Monroe. This facility highlights nearby attractions such as the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Harriet Beecher Stowe House, Caesar Creek State Park, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and Findlay Market. This rest area also features the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, which promotes sign preservation and restoration by displaying nearly 100 years of signage. The museum is the largest and most diverse public sign museum in the country and one of the top pop culture museums in the nation. There is also a new rest area open in Butler County on I-75 going north.
Additionally, the Governor cut the ribbon on the Auglaize County I-75 southbound rest area in Wapakoneta. This facility highlights nearby attractions such as Bicycle Museum of America, Ohio Caverns, The Garst Museum, MVP Dairy Learning Center, Wilson Sporting Goods Football Factory, Indian Lake State Park, and the Airstream Heritage Center. There is a special exhibit featuring items from the Armstrong Air & Space Museum, such as a replica of Neil Armstrongโs A7L spacesuit, which he wore during the historic Apollo 11 moon landing on July 20, 1969. Visitors can also see a Gemini capsule model, Apollo 11 lunar module model, and a Wapakoneta Daily newspaper from July 20, 1969. There is another new Auglaize County I-75 rest area going north.
These rest areas feature universal changing stations in the family restroom, offering an adjustable table in a clean, safe, and private space to meet the personal care needs of individuals with disabilities and medical conditions, as well as their caregivers. Twenty-nine rest areas across Ohio will have a universal changing station by the end of 2026, increasing accessibility for all travelers.
Ohio’s rest area plan includes 36 new rest areas and upgrades to more than 40 others by the end of 2026.
