The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of additional traffic changes on I-75 between Winchester Road and the Southern Split (mile points 109.5 and 111.1) needed to safely complete ongoing bridge restoration project over David Fork of Elkhorn Creek in Fayette County. Changes include lane closures on I-75 and temporary closure of the southbound off ramp at Winchester Road.
Beginning Monday, July 27, crews will work overnight to switch traffic on northbound I-75 beginning at 8:00 p.m., weather permitting. Crews will switch southbound traffic beginning at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28. Once the traffic switch is complete, the new traffic patterns are expected to remain in place through August while bridge restoration work continues.
I-75 Southbound
- Beginning Tuesday, July 28, at 8:00 p.m., the middle lane at mile point 109.5 to 111.1 will close as traffic is shifted into a new traffic pattern, with two lanes open for travel on the left side of the work zone.
- Exit 110 (Winchester Road) will be closed to southbound I-75 traffic during this traffic pattern.
- Southbound traffic needing to access Winchester Road should use Exit 108 (Man O’ War Boulevard), allowing motorists to turn around and travel north on I-75 to Exit 110.
- Detour signage will be in place to assist motorists.
- Traffic entering southbound I-75 from I-64 will continue to have access to Exit 110.
I-75 Northbound
- Beginning Monday, July 27, at 8:00 p.m., the middle and right lanes at mile point 109.5 to 111.1 will close as traffic is shifted into a new traffic pattern, with two lanes open for travel on the left side of the work zone.
- The northbound on-ramp and off-ramp at Exit 110 (Winchester Road) will remain open.
- Motorists entering northbound I-75 from Winchester Road should expect a limited merge area.
- The exit for I-64 will remain open for northbound travelers.
The traffic changes are necessary to allow crews to safely complete bridge restoration work, helping preserve the bridge and keep it safe and functional for future travel. The northbound traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through the last week of August, while the southbound traffic pattern is expected to remain in place through the third week of August.
Message boards and signage will be in place ahead of the traffic switch to alert motorists and share any information about schedule changes.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use extra caution and watch for signage and personnel while traveling through the work zone.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
